Rhinebeck

And if you're ever in Rhinebeck check out the local Aerodrome with antique planes.

Orange County Choppers

We couldn't go through Newburgh without stopping.
A pretty cool store, with great food and coffee.

Hudson River Valley

Along the river is very nice.
The first overnight stop was in Peekskill.
Home of the Indian Point Nuclear Plant we were told ! I think you may see it in one of the pics.
Right in the background of the downtown walking park !

Time to go

As said, time to leave Atlantic City and the beautiful weather.
But with heat wave to the south, and the resulting unsettled weather to the west (heavy rain, thunder and tornados) because of the warm and cold fronts (this trip has me turned into a meteorologist ! Ha !) We didn't have a lot of choices.
We headed north to the Hudson River Valley  on Thursday.

....and the Winner is...

Remember the Runner up a couple of days back ....
Well the winning votes are in....

It's got nothing to do with World Peace !!!!!!

...and the pictures I didn't attach

...not letting up...con't

It's Not Letting Up !

We didn't plan on staying in Atlantic City today, as it's time to move on.
But, we've been watching the weather over the last couple of days and into next week.
Between the above normal temperatures in North & South Carolina and Virginia and the unsettling weather system in the eastern USA, we're going to enjoy the break here !
South eastern US temps are 10 to 15 degrees above normal (95 to 100 vs 80 to 85).
And the severe thunder and lightning, hail and tornado watches to the west are just making it more interesting.
Sooo, I  guess it's time to go to the beach ! (Mid 80s outside !!)

A little history

As I mentioned.
The city has been here for a while...here's an Inn near the University....that may have been built in 1851
(It got bounced back o  the last email. Seems only 2 pics will go thru)

Fwd: It all started here !

Walking around yesterday we realized this town has been here a while - since the mid 1800s. Atlantic City started out as a resort town back in 1851. And given the length of the boardwalk and the footage of boards they used (no time to figure out the board feet Lynn) they would have had to start back then.
Today there are a half dozen casinos or more and a nice shopping outlet area here as well.
And then there's the sandy beach....

Another tidbit about Atlantic City .... the First Miss America Pagent was here in 1921 ! Attached is the boardwalk stage that is apparently still use occasionally today.
And we were fortunate enough to see the latest runner up !

Atlantic City

Well, with only 2 detours (wrong turns) along the way - both self inflicted, ha - we made it to Atlantic City.

Travelling south on the Garden State Parkway south of New York City, on a holiday Monday, in New Jersey, was quite an eye opener. We passed a line of cars on a 3 lane highway heading north for about 30 to 40 minutes, just crawling along ! Wow !
Thank God we were heading in the opposite direction !!!
Great to get here though. The weather is great. Room is great.
We spent the day walking (some) of the boardwalk. We couldn't see the end !!! In either direction!!

Taking a Break

Well, we made it to Spring Valley, NY.

It started out 10C in Bangor this morning but topped out around 30C in  the afternoon going through Conneticut. A big swing.

But as soon as we crossed the Tanpanzee Bridge it poured - as in torrential ! Thank God the hotel was only another 10 minutes away.
When you get a chance Google the bridge. Its magnificent.

By the way, around lunchtime we stopped for a fill-up and a break. While I was taking a break (as you see) some trucker was smoking something in his truck - coal I figure ! Ha !
