August 11th - a Tour of Nashville

Nashville seems to be a great city.

We all know it for the music and Monday night we were downtown listening to more. We stopped at one place called 'Tootsie Orchid's Honky Tonk'. The bar was only 20' wide but what a energized place. Apparently, a fella by the name of Willie Nelson use to push the broom there. The pictures on the wall of those that hung out and played there was amazing. The band this night had a fiddler from California - Michelle Lambert - boy was she amazing.

You can even go online and watch the shows as they have a webcam setup in the place. When we got back we checked it out. Pretty cool. Google it when you get a chance. I can assure you you won't get pushed, squeezed, rubbed......no where near the times we did Monday night while there (we went back again that night.....and the night after.....and the....just kidding).

But beyond the music, there is a lot more to the place.

Monday afternoon we went to the farmers market. It's close to the capital building that has a really nice mall in front of it, complete with water, amphitheatre...(we recorded it on a video but too big to up-load). The riverfront is a very pedestrian friendly area complete with pedestrian bridge. And the town has some 5 universities and at least 3 colleges we noticed.

Our hotel is next to Vanderbilt University. The campus is huge. A plaque outside says it was started in 1873 from a donation of 1,000,000.00 from a Colonel Vanderbilt, a shipping and railway magnate from New York. Can you imagine $1,000,000.00 in 1873 ! What's that in today's dollars ??

Anyway, enjoy the pics ! I'll post others to follow after this blog!

Pics above:
- the first is an old railway station and hotel still in use.
- the second, well, that's all about timing
